TESTIMONIALS |

I took this photojournalistic style photo of this bridesmaid in Santa Barbara. She was getting ready and helping the wedding planner with the bride's dress when someone cracked a joke and she started laughing. I captured that shot using a Canon 5D with a 70-200mm L-series lens set at about 100mm. I wanted to emphasis the maid of honor's face and since there wasn't much color to this image from the start I decided to desaturate the picture and add a sepia tone look. I also added some coarse noise to the photo to give it an antique look. Slight photoshop in the whitening of the eyes and teeth and a little spotlight on her face just to make it pop. This image has a great feel to it. The bride and groom also liked it very much. This wedding was definitely one of the more fun Santa Barbara weddings I had the opportunity to shoot. |

Here is one of my favorite wedding photos that I took in the Santa Barbara area a couple of years ago. In my eyes it's photojournalism at it's best, or at least some of my best. Here is Grandpa a little excited about doing the money dance with his granddaugter who is of course the bride. The excitement and joy on his face as he is about to give the bride a new fat bill really does it for this photo. There is nothing fancy in this picture. No great backgrounds or exceptional lighting or anything. It's all about the expression on his face. On both of their faces really. You can see that the bride looks a little amused and embarrased at the same time. This shot was taken with a Canon 20D and a zoom 70-200mm professional canon lens with image stabilization. |
Hey photo guy!
We both had to write to let you know how great you were in handling our wedding. Very professional! Our wedding planner/coordinator was right. You definitely had your shit together way more than some of the other vendors we hired to put our wedding on. The pictures and video you took were sooo good! We absolutely love them. I hope you don't if we brag about you to our friends. By the way my mom cried when she viewed the wedding album and the video. But tears of joy are a good thing!
Thanks Don,

This is a more classic landscape engagement photograph that I did in Santa Barbara. The couple are a bit too small in the image to use this photo for wallet size prints. This shot looks great blown up to at least a 13x19 inch print. Then you can really see their expressions and the vastness of the sky. I used a slight vignette on this print to add some depth to the sky and take the viewers attention away from the rocks on the right. The lighting was quite nice in the shade and we were lucky that there were not many visitors at the park in Santa Barbara on that day to get in the way of their engagement shoot. |
Dear Don,
Thanks for working your magic on our wedding day. The wedding video and album came out terrific. We would highly recommend you to all our friends. Please let us know if you ever need anything from us. We would be happy to help you sell your home when the time comes. Just let us know. Thanks again for everything Don. I'm so glad we were referred to you by our wedding coordinator. You are a splendid wedding photographer.
Truly,
Jack R.

This is from the same Santa Barbara wedding location as the above photo with Grandpa. This lady at the venue is also participating in the money dance and casually puts her bill down the brides wedding dress. By this point in the wedding most of the guests were drunk. I've been a Santa Barbara wedding photographer for many years and have never seen people so hammered. The wedding planner was shocked to. Again this image is pure photojournalistic photography. The sky was real overcast that day, which helped with the potential for having blown out highlights, but by the same token, left the images a bit flat and in need of a boost in contrast. I took this candid shot with a Canon 30D and a 70-200mm L-series professional camera lens. There was virtually no photoshop done to this image except as stated above a boost in contrast. |
Don!
A quick note to let you know how appreciative we are of your talent and creativity. The wedding and engagement photography you did was just stupendous! We don't know how you do it. You my friend are an artist, not just a photographer. We look forward to seeing how the wedding video will come out. Don't worry, we know it will be great. Please give our best to your wife. She is a sweetheart. And hats off to the the wedding planner too.
Sincerely,
Jon and Dianne F.

Taken at a Santa Barbara reception site, this shot again as an example of photojournalism. This happy couple wasn't shy to shake their thing with a back drop of laser light. Here I used fill-flash from my on camera flash to bounce light off of the overhead white canopy and illuminate the couple. This photo in my opinion has a great overall look and happy feel to it. As far as the photographic editing, the only thing I did here was to increase the blackness at the top of the image. At this Santa Barbara wedding location the white canopy up above worked great for some bounce flash, however you could then see it in the final print. I just simple darkened it out to make it look like the laser is coming from space. |
Hi Don,
Well, you've officially brought my entire family to tears with the slideshow, video and wedding album you produced for us. We are eternally grateful for your services. This work should be in a wedding magazine. We weren't expecting anything like you gave us. Of course we were thrilled with anticipation to receive your package. Amazing job Don! You are a hell of a wedding photographer!

This is a wedding ceremony at a Santa Barbara wedding location site that I shot in a combination of black and white and color photography. The water spurting up in the forground shows a lot of action and adds to the depth of the image. I like the brides wedding dress in this shot too. It's much more simple and stylish than a lot of wedding dresses I've seen. The bridesmaids look great with thier multi-colored wedding dresses too and their bouquet's all lined up in a row. This photo was taken with a wide angle lens on my Canon 30D digital camera. It was a little tricky sneaking around to the backside of the water pond without falling in. I got plenty wet too with all the splashing going on. Well worth the image though. I'd do it all again. |
Don,
Super stuff Don. I was thoroughly impressed with the wedding photography you did for us. I'm really wishing now that we had splurged and gotting your wedding video package too. Oh well, next time right? : ) Thank you for doing such a beautiful job on our photos. We look forward to seeing you again soon.
Sincerely,

This wedding photo was shot in Sendai, Janpan which is in the Northern region of Japan. This is a candid or photojoulistic shot of the bride slipping the wedding ring on the grooms hand. The bride is wearing a black wedding dress, which is extremely rare to see even by Japanese standards. Since I am mostly a Santa Barbara wedding photographer it was a great treat for me to be a destination wedding photographer for the week and travel to a Japanese location to attend this special wedding. This wedding site was very special to me In this photo I really like the lighting in the room and on the subjects hands and on the brides face. The lit up little house shaped thing in the back makes a perfect backdrop for this image. I did not do this couples engagement photos. I took this photo using a Canon 5D and my trusted 70-200 L lens. That's a great lens by the way. I use it at all my Santa Barbara weddings too. This shot should be in Los Angeles Weddings magazine, the Japanese edition.

Wow Don,
I'm looking at my wedding photos you took and just shaking my head thinking... Oh my God these are so beautiful. Thank you for being our wedding photographer and for shooting our wedding video! I think now our memories will be better than the actual wedding event was. Also I appreciate your spontaneous nature at the wedding reception to really conjure up some of these great moments. You captured stuff I didn't even know happened. Thanks to you I can now view my wedding day from a different set of eyes.
Love,
Rebecca B.

This Santa Barbara wedding location was extremely beautiful. This photo shows the groom now placing the ring on his brides finger. This was an outdoor wedding location which provided plenty of great natural light to shoot by. As a Santa Barbara wedding photographer, one of the things I try to do is capture every moment as it unveils at the venue during both the ceremony and the reception. The exchange of wedding rings is definitely one of those precious moments that shouldn't be missed. And with my Canon 30D zoomed out to 200mm with my 70-200mm L lens this moment was captured for all of history. We also make sure to get these moments on the wedding video as well. I like how althought the brides wedding dress doesn't show up in the image you can see her wedding veil kind of framing the picture. Although the background is blurred out you get the feeling that any Santa Barbara weddings and locations are beautiful. |
Don,
You're the man. You took so many great shots of our wedding not to mention our engagement photography. I am really impressed. From start to finish you not only captured it all, but you did it with such a beautiful and creative angle. From the wedding preperations to the decorations to the wedding ceremony and reception site. You captured it all. I had no idea that wedding photography and video could be so great. I know differently now and I'm glad you were available to be our wedding photographer on our wedding date.
Best,
Niles Y.

This is a headshot from a photoshoot I did in Montecito. This girl is actually a comedian, actor and model. At only 9-years old she acts like an adult and knows how to get what she wants. She's already appeared on the Jay Leno show and on America's got talent. She is super funny and very photogenic. At this site there was plenty of natural lighting to go around. This shot of her is quite spontaneous and shows her carefree nature. No need to guide her here. This image was shot using a Canon 5D and of course the old 70-200mm lens that I keep mentioning. This shot shows off some really great background bokeh (blur) to allow the subject headshot to come through. For this image I increased the saturation to extend the colors of her skin and the bricks in the background. Montecito is a great location for photography, whether shooting weddings or portraits or headshots. |
Dearest Don,
I am humbled at the photography you took at my wedding. As a wedding photographer myself I must admit that when it came time to hire a wedding photographer for my own wedding I was pretty particular. I really loved your portfolio and felt confident for you to shoot our wedding in the Montecito area. I was not just happy with the results of your photography, but sincerely taken a back. You are a phenominal wedding photographer and now I feel I need to brush up on my own wedding photography skills and creativity. If you ever need an assistant or a second shooter please call me. I would love to learn from a master. You really take the cake.

This is the same girl of course as in the above photo taken in the Montecito, Santa Barbara area. Here she is really laying it on thick with her glowing expressions that she can pull out of nowhere. This image definitely captures the joy and excitement of a child. It looks like Christmas day in this photo. I know her agent was really happy with these two head shot photos. Again the lens and small aperture create a beautiful background bokeh allowing the subject to pop out. Post production work here included increased saturation, whitening of the eyes a bit, light complexion photo retouching and a slight increas in contrast using photoshops curves. |
Don,
Thanks for the amazing headshots you took of me. My talent agent really loved them. I think she will be sending you a grip of new actors and models to have their head shots redone. And I for one will definitely be putting the word out. I enjoyed working with you. Thank you for making me feel so comfortable and natural in front of the camera. I realized that in particular makes a huge difference in how the final headshots look.
Peace,
Dianne M.
